Welcome to the 2010 Version of the OCSAA/OVSAA Cross Country information package … here’s wishing all a terrific season. The following are points that deserve your attention before launching into things. Team Registrations: You must register your team with B.C. School Sports in order to be eligible to compete. This is done at www.bcschoolsports.ca/ and must be done by October 1st. Additional athletes may be added up until Oct. 26th. Please ask your athletics director for help if you have questions. This Year’s Commissioner … is Tom Carlson at Kelowna Secondary School. You can contact me at tcarlson@sd23.bc.ca or by phone at 762-3803 (school phone) or failing that, at 769-5317 (home phone). Race Registration: Please, please, please, please ... Before the start of the first race I would like all OCSAA coaches to email me a list of athletes giving first name, last name, sex, grade, and school. I will use these rosters to assign each athlete a number that will be theirs for the entire season. When athletes arrive at the race site they should first check the posted lists to find their number. If an athlete’s name does not appear on the list they should see the on-site |

registrar (read ’person with the clipboard and the helpful smile’) to register and receive a number. Next they will go to the numbers board and find the Velcro number that corresponds to their own. Using the safety pin provided athletes will pin the non-numbered backing to their singlet. These numbers will be ripped off at the finish line to give us the finish order. Athletes should keep the safety pin and backing strip for the next race, and these will all be collected again at season’s end ( zone championships). Pennant Divisions, Distances, & Scoring: At the OCSAA level athletes compete for pennants in the following divisions: Grade 7 Boys, Grade 7 Girls, Grade 8 Boys, Grade 8 Girls, Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Senior Girls, Senior Boys. In order to advance to the Provincial Championships athletes must compete at the Valley Championships as a senior regardless of actual age class. Regular league meets will be scored as follows: 1st = 10 pts,, 2nd = 8pts, 3rd = 6 pts, 4th = 5 pts, 5th = 4pts, 6th = 3 pts ….. and so on down the line. Each runner after 7th place in their division will receive one point each regardless of placing.
